Shubham Political Poem: A Ghazal

एक ग़ज़ल के चंद अशअआर--

देखते-ही-देखते सब दिलबरी में आ गअए

सज रखी थी इक सुनहरी तश्तरी में आ गअए

जानता तो मैं नहीं तुम को निकल आया मगर

रब्त हम-तुम भी इसी अच्छी-बुरी में आ गअए

एक वो जो फंस गया था साज़िशों से बे-ख़बर

एक ये शातिर ख़ुद अपनी शातिरी में आ गअए

वक़्त जब अच्छा नहीं था दूर तक कोई न था

ये चमक देखी तो सब-के-सब ज़री में आ गए

एक मुद्दत चाहिए तकमील कार-ए-शौक़ को

क्या जतन करते के दौर-ए-सरसरी में आ गे

सब महाज़ों पर छिड़ी है जंग सुन बेदार हो

फिर सिपह-सालार अक्स-ए-साबिरी में आ गे

क्या है पागलपन जुनून-ओ-वहशत-ओ-दीवानगी

हैं बहुत इम्कान जो इस सरफिरी में आ गे

उन के जी में जाने क्या था हम पे ये बरपा हुआ

थे अभी आबाद में सहसा पुरी में आ गए

अहद-ए-हाज़िर में 'शुभम्' है फ़ाएदा सब छोड़ कर

क्या पड़ी तुम पे जो तुम भी शाइरी में आ गे

ख़बर= news, information, report, notice; बे-ख़बर= ignorant, uninformed

शातिर= clever, sly, cunning, a chess-player; शातिरी= cleverness/cunningness

वक़्त= time, occasion, opportunity, season

ज़री= golden thread

मुद्दत= time, period, length of time, duration

तकमील= finishing, completion, consummation

कार= work/endeavour/job; शौक़= ardour, zeal, fondness, desire; कार-ए-शौक़= work of love

को= to, for

क्या= what, for what, what all, and it has a 'why' tone as well (in this sher)

जतन= effort

दौर= age, circumference, round of drink, era; सरसरी= cursory, casual, perfunctory; दौर-ए-सरसरी= casual age

महाज़= front, face

जंग= battle, war

बेदार= awake, wakeful, vigilant

फिर= then, Afterwards, Again, Although, But

सिपह-सालार= Commander of an army, a general

अक्स= Reverse, Image, Photograph, Reflection; साबिर= patient, person with fortitude; अक्स-ए-साबिरी= image and epitome of fortitude and bravery

पागल= Distressed, Kook, Mad, Idiotic; पागलपन= Madness, insanity, foolishness, folly

जुनून= madness, frenzy, lunacy

वहशत= fear, frenzy

दीवाना= crazy/ mad; दीवानगी= madness, lunacy, insanity

िम्कान= possibility

सरफिरी= impulsive, capricious, whimsical, vagarious, hotheaded, impetuous, lunacy (all the above words pertaining to madness, and more connotations, difficult to find an equivalent, especially as it has been used in this Ghazal)

जी= heart, mind, soul, wish, yes (जी हाँ/हाँ जी), honorific expression

बरपा= happen

आबाद= populated, populous, settled, suffix attached with the names of the cities (Faridabad, Malihabad, Hyderabad, Faizabad, Islamabad)

सहसा, abruptly, suddenly, hastily, in a flash, all at once

पुरी= name of cities (such as Puri in Odisha famous for Shri Jagannath Temple and known as Jagannath Puri)

अहद= time, reign, period, promise, pledge; हाज़िर= present, ready at hand, in attendance; अहद-ए-हाज़िर= Present Time

फ़ाएदा= profit, gain, advantage
