City Poem - Prince Tomar
I don't know this city
Where did you sit and write Ghalib?
Everyone talks about it
I've heard poets go there
For inspiration
From the walls, you once must've stared at,
From the noise which must've distracted you
From the smell of the bread.
I don't know where that is?
They say there were seven cities before mine
Where are they now?
Lost somewhere in the ruins of their glory?
I haven't seen them.
I don't know this city.
It's a capital now,
They brought it here 88 years ago
People say it has changed a lot
I haven't seen anything though, I wasn't there.
The red sandstone structure here
Reminds people of our first rebellion
A
What did they fight for?
This, what we have today?
I can't but pity on those
Who were once called the enemy
It's not that city
Is it?
I don't know this city.
