Other poem 1: Shackles of Patriarchy

                                                        Shackles Of Patriarchy

You hit her, she bears it.
You speak and she listens.
You shout, she cries.
She is well aware of the historic atrocities of you and your kind- yet you say 'I am the man'. I am the strong one.
The vermilion you smear on her forehead marks her as yours-to attract you.
The black and gold mangalsutra you string around her neck is her noose for a lifetime.
You give her bangles to show she is your bride.
The ring you slide onto her finger is your stamp of ownership on her body and her heart- not because you love her, but because she is your property.
The tinkling anklets on her feet are glided shackles -so you can trace her every move.
You put toe rings on your property to secure your bloodline.
You tied her to you with these glittering jewels.
Stop caging her with this sugar coated torture.
She wants to feel the flow of life, let her go.
Stop pulling her down with your ancient rules.
Let her grow.
