Political Poem - Aliza Bakht
A Sonnet
for Sayeda
Sayeda won’t fail to show
up for her daily small chores.
She brooms and dusts and
washes with regularity
She treads softly to not
disturb my sad lazy snores
She has no thought or
opinion of political vulgarity.
She’s seen me through a
boy one and two and three,
And passed them off with a
smile so sly yet fleeting.
She abuses and threatens
the maids to keep her fee
And takes a two-hour long
bus home with bare seating.
The metro won’t reach her
home she doesn’t know why
Neither will proper
electricity, nor water.
Her man or kids, I think
they make her cry
And shame forbids her from
attaining felicity.
She has no thought or
opinion of political vulgarity.
Let’s romantice her and
hide all economic disparity.
