hoshi- response-1- beyond the Ash rains

What have you known of loss
That makes you different from other men?
    -Gilgamesh

I know loss,
Yet the loss you speak of
Is a stranger

 It has not come yet
But it will soon enough
And from my arms it will rip

Their very breath
And I will watch as they do so.
One day it will come for me

It will snatch my last essence
From this earth, and its people.
When I leave, I will forget

In turn people will remember
Only for a while
One, two or three generations

Because I have never done
Much to be remembered
In death or in life

If people forget, so be it
But I ask, that they remember
Stories of our ancestors

Stories I love more
than stories of myself
Because these are stories to be remembered.
