Response Poem 4: On Agha Shahid Ali's 'Language Games' - Aliza Bakht
Scrabble
I’ve always been good at
Scrabble.
When I was younger,
I used to practice
creating
words out of chaos.
It eventually strengthened
me
Till I met you.
You who popped out of
nowhere
And charmed me with your
Great flair for Scrabble.
For creating words;
Many without meanings
And many for the pleasure
of
The game itself.
I struggled and attacked
Eventually got lost in the
wordplay.
Triple score? Double
score?
Were we keeping score at
all?
Chaos reigned but no words
came
I had to break the
gameboard.
And start again from
scratch, without you.
