Villanelle : Pallavi Verma
Dance is my profession
not my hobby, dear relatives,
Why do you question?
My body is my expression
reviving, exhausting, resting
Dance is my profession
Movements are the reflection,
the language my body feels to speak
There’s a lot for me to question
First of every month is a tension
Unpaid rent, unpicked landlord’s call
Dance is my profession
Body injury is a lesson
when fear haunts for days
My safety is what I question
Am I trapped in a convention?
I try to find my voice and everytime I question
not my hobby, dear relatives,
Why do you question?
My body is my expression
reviving, exhausting, resting
Dance is my profession
Movements are the reflection,
the language my body feels to speak
There’s a lot for me to question
First of every month is a tension
Unpaid rent, unpicked landlord’s call
Dance is my profession
Body injury is a lesson
when fear haunts for days
My safety is what I question
Am I trapped in a convention?
I try to find my voice and everytime I question
Dance is my profession
